E' iniziato il "final countdown"...dopo un anno posso dire che manca ancora una settimana all'uscita nei cinema italiani del film "Lo Hobbit: un viaggio inaspettato". 

Mi sento elettrizzata, come quando nel gennaio del 2003 ho aspettato per ore fuori dal cinema al freddo con i miei amici che avevo trascinato a vedere Il Ritorno del Re..

Questa volta però ho imparato dai miei errori, mi sono fatta furba e ho letto prima il libro per evitare di annoiarmi a morte come quando ho letto Il Signore degli Anelli, una cosa davvero deprimente. 

Quindi in questi due giorni mi sono dedicata alla lettura di quello che è stato definito da W. H. Auden "la più bella storia per bambini degli ultimi cinquant'anni".

La storia è ovviamente (per chi non lo sapesse) il prequel del Signore degli Anelli e narra le avventure di Bilbo Baggins. 

Bilbo è un giovincello di circa cinquant'anni e inaspettatamente si trova coinvolto da Gandalf nel progetto di recuperare il tesoro dei nani che era stato rubato. Tra le varie avventure di Bilbo, lo stregone e i 13 nani viene anche narrato anche l'incontro dell'Hobbit con Gollum e il ritrovamento dell'anello del potere.

Questo è in massima sintesi il contenuto. La scrittura è semplice, scorrevole, divertente. 

La storia è molto più adatta effettivamente ad un pubblico infantile ma non si è mai troppo grandi per un bel libro per bambini, di quelli che ti rimangono dentro per il resto della vita. 

Non spendo parole inutili per descrivere la poetica di Tolkien vi lascio la puntata di Cult Book dedicata a Tolkien.

I started the "final countdown"...after one year I can say that "The Hobbit: an unexpected journey " will be at the cinema in Italy next week.

I feel excited, I remember when, in January 2003 I waited for hours out of the cinema to see The Return of the King with my friends. 

This time I learned from my mistakes so I read the book before seeing the film. I wouldn't want to get bored like I did when I read "The Lord of the Rings", that was depressing.

So, in thiese two days I read the book that W. H Audrey defined "The best fairytale of the last fifty years ".

The story in the prequel (if you don't know it) of "The Lord of the Ring" and narrates the adventures of di Bilbo Baggins. 

Bilbois "only" fifty years old and surprislingly concerned by Gandalf in a project to regain the treasury of the dwarf that was stolen by a dragon. Among Bilbo's adventures, the wizard and the 13 dwarfs the story also narrates the episode of the meeting between the Hobbit and Gollum and the finding of the Ring of Power.

This is a little summary. The writing is simple, fluent and funny. 

The story is adapted to children but you are never too grown up to read a good fairytale, of those that can be part of the life, from childhood to adulthood.

Lev Tolstoj - Guerra e Pace / War and Peace

E' ormai qualche settimana che l'ho terminato ma ho aspettato a pubblicare un post perché non sapevo davvero cosa scrivere senza risultare noiosa e/o scontata, tenendo anche conto della grandezza  incomparabile dell'opera. 

La storia ormai penso sia di pubblico dominio, in ogni caso vi lascio il link di un riassunto della vicenda. 

Come il titolo lascia intendere le vicende si svolgono durante la campagna napoleonica in Russia, quindi il mio primo consiglio se volete affrontare l'impresa titanica di leggerlo in modo appropriato a mio parere si dovrebbe almeno avere una minima idea della vicenda storica (anche solo dal vostro libro delle medie :) ) e non sentitevi in colpa se durante la lettura avete voglia di saltare le pagine in cui sono descritte tecnicamente e minuziosamente le vicende belliche: a meno che non siate degli storici siete autorizzati a farlo...altre ad essere noiose sono inutili!! Inoltre i protagonisti, come per Anna Karenina, appartengono alla nobiltà russa di primo Ottocento e la lingua utilizzata in società all'epoca era il francese. Nella mia edizione i dialoghi e le lettere non sono tradotti e, anche se lo capisco abbastanza, è davvero uno sforzo immane......cercate di  trovare una versione in cui le parti in lingua sono tradotte perché ce ne sono davvero a migliaia!!!

Detto questo il romanzo è qualcosa di spettacolare: Tolstoj è un maestro nel descrivere perfettamente i sentimenti e i moti dell'animo umano; i protagonisti sono magnifici, non potrete non affezionarvi a loro e commuovervi con loro (anche perché se avete i miei tempi di lettura saranno vostri compagni di vita per mesi). 
Si dice che ogni libro è una porta su un altro mondo ma questo lo è in modo particolare; vi trasporta in una quotidianità fatta di balli, di amori impossibili, di rispetto per valori a noi contemporanei praticamente sconosciuti...
Insomma, se avete tanto tempo da spendere per arricchirvi interiormente e tanta tanta pazienza Guerra e Pace è il migliore investimento.
E per chi non riesce proprio a trovare il tempo esistono le versioni cinematografiche del 1966 e 1967 e in Italia c'è anche lo sceneggiato della Rai del 2007 (sinceramente questo neanche lo prendo in considerazione, gli sceneggiati della Rai degli ultimi anni sono a mio parere a dir poco imbarazzanti...).
Magari il film vi invoglierà a leggerlo :)

Title: War and Peace

I finished that book from some weeks but  I waited to publish a post because I didn't really know what to write about it without apperaring boring and/or ordinary, according to the importance of the work. I think everybody knows the plot, anyway here's the link to a summary.

As can you understand from the title, the events take place during the Napoleon campaign in Russia, so, the first hint, if you want to deal with the titanic task to read it in an appropriate manner, in my opinion you shoult have how the historical events took place (also only from your school books :) )and do not feel guilty if you skip pages that tell technically and thoroughly of war and battles....if you aren't historians you're licensed to do it....they're boring and unuseless!! Besides protagonists, as for Anna Karenina, belong to the russian nobility of the early nineteenth century and they spoke French in society so, if you don't understand French be check that in your book edition French dialogues are translated because there are lots of dialogues!!!
That said the romance is spectacular. Tolstoj describes perfectly feelings and "motion of the soul", characters are amazing, you will become attached to them and be touch by them (also because if you don't have enough time to read it slowly like me they'll become your mates of life for months).  

They say that a book is a door on another world but this is that in particoular: it will trasport you in a everyday life made of dances, impossible loves, respect for bravery unknown for us... 
So, if you have time to spend to rich yourself and lots of patience, "War and Peace" is the best way to investment.
If you haven't enougt time you can watch the Films inspired by it of 1966 and 1967. Maybe the films will make you want to read it :)
